The building was in a very advanced state of disrepair on the brink of collapse necessitating extensive conservation work. Essentially the structure needed to be carefully propped and then dismantled, broken stone columns and decayed timber roof trusses were repaired using conservative methods and the structure carefully re-assembled and re-slated.
