A New Chimney Screen
As part of a series of improvements to this vernacular farmhouse in Co. Monaghan, we designed new wall panelling to screen a fireplace recess fitted with a new stove incorporating discreet storage for fuel. The existing match-boarding to the walls is continued around the chimney breast and pierced with ‘Gothick’ style arches overlaid with a classical frame using a simplified version of the Ionic order in keeping with the simple vernacular character.
